I am a developer, specifically one who codes web apps with Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
I enjoy coding, that is my main skill and my comfort zone. Software development has been pretty stable for the last few decades. Yes, you can run your apps in the cloud now, but the basic principles are the same. You must write the code that will run in a computer.
Artificial Intelligence is rapidly changing many aspects of many professions, including mine, and I’ve been neglecting learning about it for too long, and it’s time to establish a good learning habit.
I am not really sure which part of AI I’ll find more interesting and helpful.
My goal is as nebulous as the skies here in the UK for now. I’ll have more clarity in the next few weeks.
In addition to the real usefulness of AI, which became evident with ChatGPT's appearance, what really drives me to learn about AI is its almost magical way of working.
I’ve been a developer since 2007, and no tech trends impacted society so broadly. AI is so fascinating and so mysterious, but if you scratch beneath the surface, you’ll see the raw reality of calculus and algebra.
I want to start with the basics, rather than chasing the latest AI tool. I’ll probably try some tools, but the initial goal is to understand the principles, even if that means reviewing some maths.
I’ll share the path I’ll follow, the courses, videos, and content that I’ll use to study.
I want to close this first post with a couple of questions for you.
As a developer, have you already started embracing AI?Did you start by learning the basic principles, or did you jump into coding using libraries or a specific tool on the market?
